A belief is defined by wikipedia as a psychological state where an individual is convinced of the truth of a proposition. In simple terms, a belief is the program that defines one's character and personality; something you consider to be true about your life. We form beliefs unconsciuosly based on past experiences in our lives. Past events tied with strong emotions form impressions on your subconscious mind. These impressions are organized and categorized into beliefs. Belief systems drive your perceptions and behaviors. They have the power to limit us, or propel us forward. A deep look into your beliefs can teach you a lot about your life. Throughout this article, we're going to carefully examine beliefs and how they impact our life.
Most beliefs are formed unconsciously from past experiences. Similar experiences from the past, occuring more than once, form a stronger belief about our lives. Whether these experiences are positive or negative, the subconscious mind organizes and stores experiences to make general assumptions about our reality. Once we have a deeply held belief about something, we tend to shape our reality around that belief. Think of a belief of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Beliefs tell us what is possible, and what we should expect in the future. There are two main types of beliefs; positive & empowering beliefs, and negative & limiting beliefs. Optimistic people in general have positive uplifting beliefs. If they feel themselves thinking negatively about something, they usually find a way to look on the bright side. This type of thinking could be the result of an underlying belief that you recieve what you think about. The optimistic person forms their entire mindset around this belief that they create their reality around what they think, and therefore only think positively. On the other hand, you have the pessimist. The pessimist has limiting beliefs at their core. These beliefs could have been formed by someone in the past who cheated them, stole from them, or a wealth of negative experiences in the past. The negative emotions from what happened to them in the past are still active, and attract them more negativity the more they focus upon it. They may realize their negative attitude doesn't suit their best interest, and most likely want to change it. But beliefs are strongly by the person with emotions and 'reasons' for things being the way the are, that changing them isn't easy. People with negative beliefs tend to fall victim to their negative emotional state, often because they feel as if they don't deserve anything better. But it must be realized that there deeply held beliefs are causing the state they feel victimized by. When someone tries to accomplish something and meets resistence along the way, they experience what most people know as 'a rut'. A rut is nothing more than when your consciuos desire conflicts with your subconscious beliefs. Your brain has belief systems in order to keep you where you are. Your brain will do everything it can inorder to keep you within your belief. So in order to overcome the rut, you need to remold your subconscious beliefs with your conscious desire. You must change your limiting beliefs into empowering ones. As said earlier, beliefs are like a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you deeply believe beyond any shadow of a doubt that you will be rich, then you will eventually become rich. Once your subconscious mind accepts a statement as true, it begins reshaping your life to bring it into reality. Feeding your subconscious mind a new belief is like a planting a seed. The more you water it, the more it will grow. But if you neglect it, it will die. So continue to care for it, and feed it everyday. One day the seed will become a full grown tree, and you will be able to happily harvest its fruit. |
